Show and tell

Altho it's laborious, I would like to be able to see pieces in all their stages, for the insight and elucidation. If I come late to a piece and it's already been edited, I feel cheated. I'd like to be able to go back again, if only to check my own first impressions (since I'm also learning about my own ability to read, I find). What do you all say? I surely understand the desire to have our best work showing, but this runboard is about the process as well as the work. I'm most grateful for everyone's postings.

Re: Show and tell

I have recently revised a poem in the poetry thread and have put it up in its versions for just that reason. I agree. In fiction it becomes unwieldy just because the pieces can be so long, so maybe there is a way to do it that is not so cumbersome? Or maybe cumbersomeness is the price we pay for being able to see the process unfolding....
