Genius of Community

I just thought of putting a link up to this piece I wrote for my blog a few months back. It is connected to the idea of community and what I see as the importance of connecting with others in order to further one's own thinking, searching, learning, and I would say writing too.

It would be interesting to hear others' thoughts on this idea. Below is the link.

Re: Genius of Community

How many times I've stopped, in realizing where I was because of what I'd been saying to other people (while not listening to myself). How many times I've been in a circle and realized someone else has just said what is in my heart, when I didn't know it myself. Bless the replay in my head, that re-informs me of what others have said, and the light that goes on in conversation.
When I was pregnant with my 2nd son (of a 2nd son) I went to a Long Dance. Being very pregnant, I doubted I'd be able to stay up all night, drumming and dancing. I arrived with my prayers ready. In the middle of this group and our shared ceremonies, my prepared prayers disappeared, I realized what I was dancing, drumming and praying for (gratitude), and it, joined with others, sustained me all night and into morning.

BP, I agree, wow, that community in addition to feeding us intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, also FUELS us and gives us literal energy to sustain ourselves over time. You anecdotally "prove" it with your story of the long dance while heavy with child and the dissipation of exhaustion in that setting, buoyed up by flames, rhythm, and all the souls gathered and sharing. We are greater than the sum of the parts.... Cliche as it is, 'tis true, methinks.
